UP CLOSE & PERSONAL
Dr Kimberly Brady Gilbert was born and raised in Amarillo, Texas. She is the only child of Dr Chris and Ronnie Brady. She attended Amarillo High School graduating in 1999 and then WTAMU for undergraduate school. Other than four years spent in Houston, TX attending dental school, Dr Gilbert hasn’t strayed too far from home for too long.
Dr Gilbert made the decision to become a dentist at the ripe old age of two. Growing up with her dad as a dentist gave Kimberly the opportunity to spend countless hours in the dental office. As a toddler and small child Dr Gilbert would put her teddy bears in the dental chair, don a pair of “Dr” glasses and gloves and proceed to “drill” on her “pts”. Every time she walked into the dental office as a kid Kimberly would stop and take a deep breath and say, “I just love how the dental office smells” and as Dr Gilbert got older she would assist Dr Brady on weekend emergency dental calls. This often lead to Kimberly eating crackers and asking super inappropriate questions like, “Why is there so much blood, Dad?” all the while holding a suction and passing instruments. Needless to say as Dr Gilbert has grown older her questions have grown more appropriate as have her sanitization skills. As Dr Gilbert grew up she continued to work at the dental office through high school and college and enjoyed accompanying Dr Brady on mission trips where they put on VBS programs and provided dentistry to those in need. With all of her time in and around dentistry it’s no wonder she wanted to become a dentist, it’s in her blood!
While a junior in high school Dr Gilbert met her now husband, Kent Gilbert. Kent is from Claude, TX and each of their very good friends set them up on their first date. It was a perfect match as they have been happily married since July 2000. Kent worked and helped put Kimberly through school while she did her undergraduate work at WTAMU and graduate work at the UT Dental Branch in Houston. While a fourth year in dental school they welcomed their first daughter, Bradyn Beth, into the world. (If you’ll notice she is named after Dr Gilbert’s maiden name of Brady-just add an n, and you have Bradyn!) It was an exciting and very busy time being in dental school and being a new mom as well and without Kent it could have never been done. He is the best daddy and support team a girl could ask for! And speaking of girls, not quite two and a half years later the Gilbert’s welcomed their other daughter Riley Delyn, better known as Rooster to friends and family. When Roo arrived Kent was in graduate school getting his masters in Environmental Science and once again life was crazy but so much fun!
The Gilbert’s continue to have a crazy busy life. When not at work practicing dentistry with her dad and Dr Turner, Dr Gilbert enjoys being a wife to Kent and mom to her girls. In fact, Dr Gilbert only works until 5 one day a week in order to be able to pick up her girls and be involved in their very active lives. She and Kent spend a lot of their time chauffeuring their girls to and from all of their activities. Bradyn is a freshman at Amarillo High and involved in orchestra as a cellist, tennis, guitar and all the activities that First Baptist Church offers for their youth. Riley is a 7th grader at Crockett and plays the cello in the orchestra, guitar, sings in FBC youth choir and is also involved in all youth activities at church. The Gilbert’s have always valued family time and as busy as they are they make it a priority to sit down as a family and have a home cooked dinner together, pray together and laugh together.
In her free time Dr Gilbert enjoys spending time with friends, reading (when she can find a quiet place!), skiing and traveling. Dr Gilbert loves to ski with her family and friends and in the winter can be found on a mountain in New Mexico nearly every weekend carving up the snow and in the summer she enjoys hiking and exploring those same mountains she skis on. Perhaps Dr Gilbert’s most favorite thing to do is travel and make memories with her family. They have enjoyed trips to Scotland, Ireland and many of the United States including Alaska. The Gilbert’s attend church at First Baptist Church and enjoy studying and growing in the Word of God as a family.
